How does the client update?

Does it update? Do we need to reinstall during the beta?

I have a handful that aren't checking in after 12hrs, I saw a "checkin bug" already on github, so I didn't make a new issue. Curious how updates are handled because of this.

    The software itself has to be manually updated if the version number needs to change. We will build an auto-updater before it leaves beta. But all of the settings and payload (which includes custom scripts and branding) are updated instantly when the software is started each time.

    The check in takes place every 24 hours or when a user logs in, whichever comes first. It will not check in if no user is logged in, even if the computer is online.

  • @admin it would be nice to have the client check in every 24 hours regardless of user log in status, but I can understand if this is not something that can be done in the near future. For now I can rely on my RMM tool for "heart-beat" from the clients, but it would be nice to include this as a part of the move towards being a more complete RMM tool.

  • One of the things on our roadmap is to build out a system service to handle some of the tasks, once this is done we may be able to have more regular check ins.

  • As of version 0.4.x.4 auto-update is an option.
